Recently I had noticed things in my life had gone a bit fuzzy. I wasn’t as sharp as I used to be. Things just weren’t coming into focus. So I knew I had to get things into perspective. Okay, enough of the puns.
Basically I’d been having some problems seeing the television from bed and the clock on the tv. It was all a bit blurry. I also noticed when driving that the street signs were a bit harder to focus on. Nothing was as crisp as it had been before, so I bit the bullet and went to the eye doctor.
I had corrective eye surgery in 1999. It worked great. Yet they did tell me back then that there was a big chance that after 8-10 years there might be some deterioration in my vision. This was to be expected and normal. I guess for once, I’m normal. *sigh*
I got the peepers inspected and it turns out I’m 20/40 in my left and 20/30 in my right. My left eye had always been the worst. What was funny though is that in my left eye I have two astigmatisms (I used to have six). I had to laugh because I have had glasses since I was about six or seven years old and know full well what an astigmatism is and what it does to your vision. However, I still had to explain to everyone there that I knew. And when I did explain that not only did I know but that my eye sight had previously been 20/1000 and 20/800 and I was well versed on it all and they were all quite surprised and finally left me alone on the definitions and who’s and what’s of glasses and vision.
So I’m back in spectacles, instead of making one of myself (not that I still won’t make a spectacle of myself in spectacles). I got two nice new pairs. I do not plan to be in them for long. Sometime in the new year I will be seeing another LASIK surgeon and see if I can get a touch up. I don’t care if they make me look smarter, I’d rather not have to deal with them at all.
But until then I will wear them. Because I can see clearly now, the blur is gone.
