Happy Leap Day!

February 29th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

Wow! That came up fast. It seems like only four years ago it was Leap Year. Where does the time go?  I mean, I didn’t even remember to decorate for it, it came up so fast. I didn’t get you a Leap Gift. Hope you don’t mind….oh wait, this isn’t a holiday. Then why on earth are people acting like it is?

Leap Year sales, reports on “Leap Day”, little frogs everywhere.  It amazes me how people (when I say people, I mean corporations  and businesses) will take something as simple and mundane as Leap Year and make into a celebration where we should buy stuff.

If there is a way to make a buck they will find it.  What other “holidays” are going to come along to be beefed up and made into another celebration?  Why isn’t this much of a deal made over National Teacher Appreciation Day? Where are we going in our society when a pointless, extra day on our calendar becomes a reason to flog more crap that we don’t need.

Hoo! Hoo! Hoo! Happy Leap Year!

And the Oscar goes to…

February 27th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

The strike is over, the red carpet rolled out, dresses critiqued and torn apart.  I was excited, I was watching, I was…disappointed.

This years Academy Awards was a bit dishwater.  There was no flare, no excitement and frankly the films they had to choose from on a whole were quite boring.

Granted, I have not seen all of the films but I did see quite a few of them.  The winner of best picture, “No Country For Old Men” was a film I was greatly disappointed in.  The hype that surrounded it I felt let down. And now it won best picture.

I was happy “Juno” won best original screen play and the brilliant actress from “La Vi En Rose” won best actress, but other than that, I felt deflated more than elated.

Here’s to next year.

In the land of Blog

February 22nd, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

For a while I was posting every day. Something would be happening. Something would be on my mind. But not so much lately.   Why is that?

Is it I’m bored? No, I’m actually pretty busy.  Is it I have nothing to talk about? No, I honestly do.  Or is it I don’t want to bore people with the “boring” bits of life that seem to fill the land of Blog on this great world wide web.

Sure I could talk about how I am going to the gym, or shoveling snow for the first time in my life or how for some odd reason my husbands feet eat his socks.

Hmmmm…there are so many things going on but they seem so mundane to blog about. I could tell you about Monday night in acting class where I ended up in the fetal position crying during and exercises. See there are loads of things. Ah well, I guess I will have to pick one soon.

Gum is a snack?

February 10th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

While watching this evenings re-run of ‘the Simpsons’ there was an ad for Extra sugar free gum.  It featured a curved stick of gum which is slowing spinning while a voice over sexily tells you “Go from nice gut to nice butt” It then goes on to tell you that Extra gum is a great part of your low calorie diet, as a snack.

Now the 5 calories a stick is great. After all, Lord knows those huge chunks of Hubba Bubba (27 calories) have been making thighs across the world spread faster than ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter’.  But gum as a snack? It’s not a snack. It’s a breath freshener or even appetite suppressant (like mints) but you don’t eat the gum.  It’s not an actual snack. What on earth are we coming to when it comes to dieting that we consider a stick of gum a snack?

Rarely do I get excited about sporting events. It’s just not in me. I can’t even say that this Super Bowl I was over excited. I dipped in and out of the game. Partially because I can’t deal with football on tv but also because when I started to watch the Giants started to loose.

Now before you say “Ah, you fair weather supporter” or “You only like them because they got this far.” All I can say to you is ‘Shut your pie-hole!’ I’ve been a Giants fan since conception and I will be until the end. I don’t care if they win or lose, they are my team. Even if I don’t watch every game. For those of you who don’t believe me, you can easily ask one of my friends who has known me since I was 13, when I was already a fan, and had been for some time. I’m also a NY Rangers fan and a NY Mets fan (which shows true dedication right there).

Now, back to the game. I was biting my nails for some time and flipping back and forth between the game and some other junk on tv. Once again, I was too scared to watch because I felt I was jinxing my boys. But I watched the end. I about jumped out of my skin. I actually jumped up and down on my bed with excitement. For me this is a big deal because, well, as I said before, sports just don’t do it for me.

There is also a bit of poetic justice in the fact that the Patriots lost. Especially after their season. It was time for them to learn nobody’s “perfect”.
